Singapore, 28 November 2001
- Systems@Work will unveil its mobile payment system V-Coupon (Virtual Coupon) at Sitex 2001 at the Singapore Expo
from 29 Nov to 2 Dec. Any visitor to the exhibition will be able to experience the convenience of paying for their food,
drinks and parking by using their mobile phones. Sitex is the first exhibition in Singapore and Asia to offer such a
unique form of cashless payment whereby users do not need to present their cash or credit cards at point of purchase.
Said Mr Ng Fook Sun, CEO of Systems@Work,
"With V-Coupon, Sitex visitors simply use their mobile phones as their mobile wallets to pay for food,
beverages and parking. Besides providing utmost convenience, V-Coupon also assures
total security of transactions, as it is based on the secure e-payment technology TeleMoney."
Said Mr. Steven Seet,
General Manager of Singapore Expo, organizer of Sitex 2001, "Singapore
Expo strives to proactively introduce innovative solutions and services that
enhances the visitor experience at our exhibitions and events. As the
technology landscape moves towards mobile commerce, we believe
that providing value-adding services such as V-Coupon is a key
ingredient that will contribute to the success of our shows."
Said Ms. Urvashi Sood,
Director of Ambassador Hotel Services Pte. Ltd. provider of the Food and
Beverages services to Singapore Expo, "The V-Coupon system works
very well in that it brings about cost savings by enabling automated
tracking of revenue per outlet and reduction in cash management.
Most importantly, it will provide convenience to our customers."
It is very simple
and convenient to use V-Coupon. At the exhibition, visitors just need
to download pre-paid V-Coupons from any Systems@Work issuing
counter located at Hall 5 into their mobile phones. They can pay for
the coupons with either cash or any credit card. The value of
V-Coupons starts at S$10.
Visitors can then
use their V-Coupons to pay for purchases at food and beverage outlets
inside the Sitex exhibition area (Halls 4 and 5) and for car parking fees
at the Singapore Expo. At the food and beverage outlets and the
parking payment counter outside Hall 5, the cashier will key in the
relevant amount into an infrared receiver unit. Users can then pay
by pointing the phone's infrared port at the sales terminals infrared
receiver. The system will automatically deduct the amount to be
paid from the pre-paid V-Coupon.
The amount
in the V-Coupon can be topped up, or if there is insufficient credit,
the user can pay for the balance with cash. To get a refund on
unused balance, users just need to go to any issuing counter at Hall 5.
"Starting with Sitex,
we will work with Singapore Expo to put in a cashless mobile payment
system for all future events," said Mr Ng. "Eventually, Systems@Work
plans to integrate the mobile-payment system with the items on sale
and the sales terminals so that no cashiers will be needed, as visitors
will be able to key in the purchase amount, check out the item and pay
using this method."
V-Coupon is
part of the TeleMoney proximity payments that has been recently
selected by the Infocomm Development Authority of
Singapore (IDA) as a mobile payment solution under its Call for
Collaboration initiative. V-Coupon is a proximity payment solution
that uses stored value only.
Systems@Work
will be showcasing the V-Coupon system at booth no. P50 at the
TeleMoney Pavilion at Sitex, Hall 5, Singapore Expo, from
29 Nov to 2 Dec. Besides V-Coupon, other TeleMoney
applications in the areas of e-commerce and m-commerce
will also be showcased at the Pavilion.
